How learning works test

Most of us learned to study by feel: reread, highlight, cram the night before. Decades of research on learning say most of that feels effective and isn’t, while the methods that work feel harder.

Question 1 of 10

A study sorts people into visual and verbal learners, then teaches half of each in their own style. What does it find?

Scored in your browser. Your answers aren’t stored.

About this test

Every wrong answer here is a named myth. You’ll see what the research says after each question, and at the end you get a course that starts from the ones you believed.

Questions people ask

Are learning styles real?

People have preferences, but teaching to them doesn’t help people learn more. Well-designed studies consistently find no benefit.

What is the best way to study?

Test yourself from memory (retrieval practice) and spread your study over days (spacing). Both are among the most reliable findings in learning research.

Does cramming work?

For tomorrow, somewhat. For next month, poorly. The same hours spread out are remembered much longer.
