Plain words, because you should be able to read the whole thing. By making an account you agree to these; reading the public pages needs no account and no agreement.

What this is

Cognosc builds short courses around a question you bring, checks your understanding in your own words, and brings ideas back for review. Lessons, checks and tutor replies are written by AI models. They are usually right and sometimes wrong — including about whether an answer of yours shows an idea. Don’t rely on it where a mistake would hurt you, and never for medical, legal, financial or safety decisions.

Your account

You need to be 16 or over. Keep access to your email secure, since that is how you sign in. One person per account.

Free and membership

A free account is paid for by a shared fund that we and our members pay into, and gets one course of its own; if the month’s fund runs out, new lessons and questions pause until the 1st. A membership is $9 a month, billed in advance by Dodo Payments as merchant of record, with a monthly fair-use allowance described on the pricing page. You can cancel any time from your account page; you keep membership until the end of the period you paid for. Prices may change, with at least 30 days’ notice by email before they affect you.

What’s yours

What you write stays yours. You let us store it and process it to run the service for you — which includes sending it to the AI providers listed in the privacy notice. If you publish a course, you let anyone read its lessons, and let other learners add their own copies of it.

Lessons written for your course may be reused for other learners who need the same thing. They never contain your answers.

Fair use

Don’t use Cognosc to attack or overload it, to try to get around the allowance or the sandbox that interactive figures run in, to generate anything unlawful, or to extract the service wholesale by automated means. We may suspend accounts that do.

Leaving

You can export everything and delete your account at any time from your account page. We may close the service; if we do, we’ll give at least 30 days’ notice and time to export.

The usual limits

The service is provided as it is. To the extent the law allows, we aren’t liable for indirect losses, and our total liability to you is limited to what you paid us in the twelve months before the claim. Nothing here limits rights you have that can’t be limited by agreement.
